I tend to use a pencil for whatever writing I am doing, unless it’s a legal document such as a check or agreement.  I have nice mechanical pencils that can retract the point, have a rubber grip, and have a clip to secure them in my pocket. They also have a good, replaceable eraser.

The thing I like about writing with a pencil is that when I make a mistake or I’m not satisfied with what I have written or drawn, I just scrub it away with the eraser and do it over again.. until I’m reasonably satisfied with the result.  Alas my writing is difficult to read unless I take a lot of time writing and exercise great care.  Even then sometimes I get a bit shakey and my writing is maybe less than artful.  So I use the eraser a lot.  It’s a good thing they’re replaceable, and low cost!

Forgiveness can be a bit like the eraser.  No, I don’t mean that the event can be erased, and I don’t mean I should erase the event from my memory.  What I mean is that I can erase my own negativaty associated with the event.  I can erase my perception that the event is “bad,” maybe choosing to take a different perspective of the other person or event, or maybe just taking a different perspective on my own part in what happened.  There’s a blessing in everything: I can ask what is or may be the blessing?

When I erase the negative emotions from an event, I also shed the weight of the negative energy.  This frees me to think of more positive things, things that will help manifest other things in my life that I want or will enjoy.  It also frees me to learn new ways of handling situations that led up to an event that needs forgiveness. Does that seem like a positive outcome, if as a result of the event and my forgiveness I become more adept at handling difficult situations?

Keep in mind that while the need for forgiveness may be associated with an event, it is not necessarily associated with a person or group of persons.  What objects or circumstances do you need to forgive?
