Paul McKinley is the author of the new book “Rules of the Spirit: Integrating Spiritual Truths in Daily Living.” Paul earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin Texas, and worked the last 17 years as an independent consultant in the computer industry. He has had a varied career including working as a well driller, motorcycle mechanic, engineer, systems administrator, consultant, and entrepreneur. As an engineer he worked on designing computers, robotic manufacturing of aircraft landing gear, automating bowling ball manufacturing, and designing industrial cat-scan equipment. He is an instrument-rated pilot, and developed an airport community east of Georgetown Texas, with streets named after the first successful aircraft builder from various countries. He served as a Methodist layspeaker for several years, and more recently served as one of the regular speakers at Unity of Temple TX. Paul has published a highly technical article in the now-discontinued SysAdmin magazine, as well as serving as a regular columnist for the Belton Journal writing articles on computer usage for the casual user. He won the 9th and 4th place McKillop Newsletter Editor’s awards in ’94 and ’95, respectively, from the Experimental Aircraft Association. Paul is a Reiki level 2 healer, as well as using an energy healing technique he developed prior to his Reiki training.
Both Paul and his wife Ann, who is also a mechanical engineer, were born in Virginia to Texas parents, and lived most of their lives in Texas. They returned to Virginia in 2015, settling in Gordonsville, near Charlottesville. Ann picked Charlottesville by randomly placing her finger on a map of Virginia when Paul asked where exactly in Virginia she wanted to move, and things just fell into place after that. They live with 3 cats in a 50’s Cape Cod style house that they are rehabilitating. Their son Jesse works as a software developer in the DC area with a degree in Computer Game Programming.
The book “Rules of the Spirit” evolved from insights derived from the phrase “We are in the world, not of the world.” Out of those insights he developed the “Rules” paradigm, which makes it easy to differentiate “Worldly” behavior from “Spiritual” truths. Although the book covers much more, forgiveness is a very important topic that is covered in the book. Forgiveness is a topic that most people struggle with, mainly because they are thinking about the process from a worldly perspective. The Rules paradigm makes it easy to understand Forgiveness from a spiritual perspective, which makes the process much easier to understand, and easier to grow beyond.
Book #2 is in the works: “The Energy of Forgiveness: Finding Peace In A World Of Hurt.” “The Energy of Forgiveness” uses the Rules of the Spirit paradigm as a platform to deep-dive into forgiveness. This book grew out of the many people showing up for whom forgiveness was a real issue and stumbling block. “The Energy of Forgiveness” presents the topic of Forgiveness in a way that makes it easy to understand why forgiveness is so important, regardless of the event that triggered the need for forgiveness, and provides methods for coming to a state of forgiveness even when it’s difficult.
